Dwarf Puffer v. Ghost shrimp

Post by Badjuujuu »

I am preparing a 10g tank to put a few DPs in, but at the moment there is about five 2" ghost shrimp in there. Will these be aggressive toward the DPs or will they coexist alright? We have a 30g with a GSP in that they will go "play" with once he is big enough. Also, with 2 DPs an otocinclus and the handful of ghost shrimps will the 10g be over stocked? I currently have a 10g rated top fin and a penguin 100 hanging on the back filtering the water and a bubble wand. So I there is a lot of water turnover going on in addition to good aeration. Thanks for any advice! I'll try and get a pic of the tank up soon so the plant life can be taken into consideration.

The shrimp might become puffer food one day, especially if they are in a group ;) It would be interesting to watch.

I'd be very happy to have those shrimp be taken down by a couple of my little puffers. The GSP seemed to be "afraid" of the shrimp so I wasn't sure if the shrimp would be able to pick on the Dwarfs.

I have heard of a much larger fish at an LFS that jumped tanks and was tanken down in the DP tank. Group mentality.

When I had shrimp in with my dwarf puffers, the shrimp did seem to have rule of the tank. I won't say they bullied the puffers, but they certainly weren't afraid of the puffers, that's much is for sure.

I've seen ghost shrimp steal dp food, thats about it. I had one in the tank with my dp's when I had them. They seemed to ignore each other. I wouldnt worry about the shrimps aggression toward the dps, but as already stated, perhaps the opposite.

As I don't have DP's, I don't know for sure; however I'm sure that if the DP had a mind to, he'd take down a shrimp or two. I don't think the shrimp are aggressive by any means - but they might try to shoo away the DPs. If they eat them, great :) If not - I'm sure no harm done!

Great! The SG is about down to 1.004 now in the tank. Tap water reads similar to 1.004 so I think I'm getting close to having all the salt out of the tank. Going to do a few more massive water changes and watch the biological levels for a few weeks. After that, time to toss in the little cuties ... once I find some. Extremely excited! My husband is trying to figure out a way to cram in a Fahaka tank in our tiny apartment ... sadly it's going to have to wait for us to get a new place.

I put 4 ghost shrimp in my tank with 4 dp's. The large shrimp really seemed to bother the dp's so I took them out and left 2 small ones. One small one disappeared right away, but the other has been living with them for weeks now. Added 2 cherry shrimp also which a are doing fine.

I saw mine eat a cherry shrimp today.
I just to have 10. He was the last one, he lasted for about a year, and never was afraid of the DP's.

Amano's can roam freely, although i'm not sure I still have all of them. Small ones get looked up on, but i never saw one attack.

I would say they can co-exist peacfully, but some might disappear one day.
(I don't understand why they don't kill and eat all)
