When did you keep one of these? What was your experience with it?

Other than a GSP when I was young, these were my 1st puffers. Of course & knew nothing about them, bought 2 of them in FW, were told they were FW. When I got on the comp & did some research, I found very little info about them but finally found out they were SW fish. I traded them into a different LFS who acclimated them to their SW system. For some reason, they didn't make it.

Sorry I can't help you more. I do know they loved to burrow.

I don't believe they have such a poor success rate as the ocellatus, nor do they need the lower temps.

I just ask because I noticed on her profile that she has kept one and was wondering her experience. I too have kept one.

"when I got the fugu it was in fresh water, I put it in a 90g alone, I slowly raised the SG, over 6 months, and tried slow varations in temp, below 75 the puffer was lethargic, at 78 the puff was full of life, biting at the glass, swimming everywhere and eating from my hand. When the SG got to full marine I cured about 80lbs of live rock and added it, slowly turing it in to a reef. The puff lived for about 5 years at which point it jumped into the overflow and cut his side so bad guts were visible It once nipped a mushroom but was disgusted by it, it never attacked another fish not even a guppy."

It was my 2nd fish and trust me, VERY hardy. It was before I even knew about puffer forum and it was the reason I found puffer forum! It buried in the sand for a long long time, I was worried becuase it wouldnt eat, so I put krill right up to its mouth, waved it around, and finaly it ate, with out even un burying. I think the poor thing just wanted breakfast in bed lol
