New Puffers!

Well I am over the moon! We took a very long ride today, but it was well worth it. I finally got the puffer I've been wanting for months -- Carinotetraodon salivator! The shop only had two left and I bought both of them. The only downside is that they are both male, but the male is the most striking to look at if you ask me.

I am totally excited!! A friend was going to take a trip in a few weeks and see if he was able to find me C salivator, but I was lucky enough to find these two before someone else did. In this area of England they are not so easy to find, so I am very pleased. We just got them home, but they are already swimming about and have taken some bloodworm.

Getting a new puffer makes me feel like it is Christmas. I owe alot to my husband because these boys were not cheap, but I am absolutely thrilled to have them!

So very true, getting any new additions to a tank is always special, although Puffers definitely make it even better... be sure to post pics of the new guys

Thanks Bruce, I will try to get some pictures of them. I didn't realise they were so attractive. I had never seen them either, but I did some looking last night and I found a couple of vids on YouTube, but they weren't very long. It's hard to find information on C salivator and C lorteti, but I think the Redeye puffers (all of them) are my favourite ones now.

A couple of months ago I had a chance to get a Bornean redeye puffer, but the same day I was going down to get them the guy sent me a message to say he had changed his mind! I was very disappointed, but I didn't blame him. Apparently you don't see the Bornean ones at all, and I'm not even sure what they would look like to be honest.

I really will work on getting some decent photos.

I took a few pictures yesterday of my new boys. The pics aren't very good, but you will get an idea of what they look like. I didn't notice how dirty the aquarium glass was until I looked at the pictures ..... sorry about that.

I will have to try to get some better photos soon.

They had these at my LFS Britains Aquatic Superstore in Bolton, but they were sold within the week!

You know Mysifier I've been wanting to visit BAS, but never got over that way yet, is it worth it? Do they have puffers frequently?

Really sorry the photos are such crap! I am going to clean the glass good and then wait for both of the males to get close to each other, that's when they really look fantastic!! They become totally zebra-like and they do that "keeling" and they are very cool to see. They don't try to hurt each other, I think it's more of a mental intimidation they are using, trying to psyche each other out.

Ive been to BAS a few times now and its hit and miss in all honesty, although most of the time theres not a lot there, had a few cichlids from there in the past, my Bocourti, grammode, dovi and most recently my Barramundi.

Although one thing really annoyed me, i was away a few weeks ago and my dad went to bas with a few friends and fetched me a 8-9" Barramundi back, but the hard dorsal rays punchured the bag, so he asked for a polly box and they said that would be an extra £5, and baring in mind we just spent £45 on this barramundi, if it was a couple of quid sale but this was stupid and shops get fish boxes for free anyways

That's silly. I think I might have told them to stuff their £5 bag! If I know I'm going to a LFS, I take this plastic container that I use for transporting fish, especially as I'm most concerned with puffers, and as you well know, they can bite through a bag.

I would have been insulted if they had told me I needed to pay for a decent bag to put the expensive fish I'd just bought in. That's a bit greedy if you ask me.

I've heard alot of hype about BAS, and so I've wanted to go, but there would have to be a VERY good reason for us to travel so far. I've been tempted by Pier too.
