Nitrate Issues

Ive just bought some De.Nitrate by seachem today gonna add it to some of my internals today, and it can be reactivated, just gonna add some anyway.

Just as a head's up, the Algae Scrubbing filter just grows algae onto a plastic sheet by pointing a light at the sheet while water moves over it, and the algae eats all of the nitrate (along with a lot of other things, like phosphates). It's pretty much as natural as it gets! ^_^

Vitamin C is a very good option, too, if you're good at dosing 2x a day (I forget too frequently, hehe).

Buffered VC will not touch the pH.

I tested the tap water at work today and no nitrates and our PH and GH has risen also which is great as our water has been very soft and have had to buffer it at least in the african cichlid tanks.

I tested mine at home and same no nitrate (touch wood) and my ph has risen from low 6's to closer to 7 which is great also. Ive been holding off on doing anymore waterchanges since tuesday when i did em last incase i dont do em anygood with nitrates etc... now ive checked they got a nice one today

Also added some De-Nitrate by seachem to one of my aquaballs and the rest in the blackbox on the pond to try it out.

Is that De-Nitrate stuff little black things that are a little soft? I bought something by Interpet that's supposed to help with nitrates. I've not used it yet and the only reason is because I need to get some little bags to put it in, as I'm going to divide it up and put some in each tank instead of using a large amount in one tank.

Curious though, if your nitrates aren't high, why are you using De-Nitrate, Bruce? If I wasn't having such high readings, I would not be thinking about putting anything in my tank.

Nah its like grey rocks/pebbles, i thought my nitrates would have been higher, not too high but not idealm + i already bought it before i tested my water so might as well use it lol

I think the De-nitrate stuff is the kind of thing that will eventually begin leeching nitrates back into the water once saturated, which I mentioned in an earlier post, so you might need to keep a check on levels and make sure the filter material is functioning effectively.
