food

Post by Dre »

What do you guys feed your porcipine puffers as a staple food? I have offered squid, clams, mysis, and krill. He only seems to like the krill.

I do not have a porc, but a common issue that seems to pop up is that porcs on a diet of krill seems to get lock jaw. As for feeding advice, try soaking some of his other foods in garlic juice..it might get him started on the clams and squid...you can try crabs too.

Shelby loves clams and shrimp, her favorite part seems to be the tail.
Worms are good too.

Puffito's main diet consists of frozen "Brine Shrimp Plus", freeze dried plankton and Spectrum "Thera + A" pellets. Believe it or not - his favorite treat is snow peas - right out of the can!

A variety is necessary for long term health...my first porcupine died after 4 years or so because of liver failure after too much dry food and not enough variety (didn't know better at the time).
