Today at school in enrichment my friend told me he is getting a porc. I am like WHAT SIZE TANK?I yelled it across the room. He said he is keeping it in his 15 gallon.and he wants more fish.IM LIKE NO WTF JAY?Atleast he knows that they need there teeth kept from growing rlly big.so he said he going to feed em shrimp and mussles ETC. Then I asked how long it been cycling. Reply: 1-2 Weeks. I was in total . HE never kept saltwater fish before. Im trying to get him out of it until he gets a bigger tank and hes like I also wanna get a S&S puffer with the porc.Im like 120g+180g=300g so if he wants tank mates he needs bigger.
He said its a "RARE" puffer. and crazzed puffer if ur reading it,its the Porc. at ur place.It has some lil thing coming out its butt.
n he said hes geting it for like $40 dollars.
Crazed puffer, don't let him have it! It's always awkward trying to tell your friend stuff like that. My friend has this goldfish which I feel so sorry for. It has real problems. Its eye is dodgy and it floats and constantly has to swim down. I said he should get it some medicine quick, and he was like "nah, we tried it before and it didn't work. He's fine anyway" I was just like . Then I said, It looks like the gravel needs cleaning as well (it was really deep and the bottom layer was black with dirt) and he said "alright, you from the RSPCA or something?" He said it in a jokey way but it still made me angry. Sometimes I wish goldfish and other such fish weren't hardy and were easily killed by bad water etc. At least people wouldn't buy them and not bother caring for them. Anyway, sorry I just realised how much of a rant I have just had, and how it has nothing to do with puffers lol. But yeah, just try and drop in the odd comment that might put him off getting one, or actually finding out about them first. I hope you can change his mind.

Although, as for cycling, the amount of time doesn't mean everything. If he's cycling fishlessly, it could certainly be done by now. This, of course, would be assuming that he actually knows what cycling is...
Also, does he realize that the fish should grow large enough that he really won't fit into a 15g? I mean, forget about the bioload. He would barely *fit.*

It would be cool if someone could come up with a way for breeding puffers to be miniatures. Kind of like dog breeds. I would love to have a dwarf porc, or dwarf dogface. And it would take the stress of off catching puffers in the wild. Not sure why this thread made me think about that, but thats what came to mind.....

Haha no way would I have let that kid get that fish. Good thing he got the damsels. That's probably my favorite fish we currently have, no way would he ever go in a 15 gallon!
I would only put a porc.that big in a 15 gallon for only few reasons.holding cell for transporting(the puffer is smallish) and two put it in there for when doing full water changes
