Something also wrong with Annabelle(update: Ich & IP)

Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

She is not eating guppie's after all. She's not eating anything. Now she has ich, and I think internal paraisites. :( I have treated her twice before with gel-tek and prazipro.

Here are some pictures. Last night her anus was wide open so I thought she might be constipated. I mixed up some epsom salt and put it in her tank. Looks like I'll be treating her for ich also. :( What is going on with my puffers? :crying:

oh dear, i honestly have no idea what's going on. The freshwater whitespot is a completely different parasite to the marine one, and they are not transferable... so i don't get it.

IP's are treatable...

Freshwater ich is (easily) treatable...

Constipation.. umm.. live foods like daphnia are supposed to be good... as are greens...

Maybe post a constipation thread, see what other suggestions people have...

Sorry hun, you are having such a bad time of it. :(

I'm raising the temp to 86 degrees and I've already added aquarium salt. Just need to know if I can treat the whole tank for ip's since she's not eating or should I do dip's in the prazipro?

I'm so sick to my stomach right now! I really don't know what to do at this point. :(

I have an empty 10 gallon at work that I can move annabelle to and I have a sponge filter in her tank that I can move over for instant cycle.

it would seem that when it rains it pours huh?
i'm so sorry ....the poor thing must've stressed out big time.....
i am not by no means experienced with puffers....having aquired my first fahaka yesterday...
but is there anyway that your using the same "python" or make shift draining device and the parasite mutated into the FW tank and she developed ick from that?....

don't laugh at my stupidity....i'm just curious i guess.....grasping at straws.....

Saltwater ich cannot live in freshwater that's why hypo is so effective and vice versa. And no I haven't used the same python for both tanks. :(

freshwater fish not really my field so i'm more hesitatent to advise.

I'd post a whole new thread about it, people will assume she got better and not read it to the end. You could do with more knowledge of treating whitespot expert advice on IP's that i don't have...

What makes you think she has IP's? If she isn't eating i guess all you can do is treat the tank, although maybe wait for the white spot to die off and then hope she starts eating again, and treat the IP's then.

If she has IP's .. then she's had them a while and they won't necessarily bother her for a few more days...

Just get the whitespot sorted, clear the water of all meds.. and maybe get a big variety of food from snails to mussle to cockle to bloodworm to river shrimp (never known a puffer to refuse live river shrimp) and get her eating again, then treat her food.

I'd not put her in a 10G at the moment, you'll stress her more, have problems maintaining the parameters, and on top of all the elvis stuff it may just be too much for you.

Get rid of the whitespot.
Get the tank water free from meds.
Get her eating
treat her for IP's by treating her food. Only treat the food once she's eating well, otherwise teh funny tasting meds may out her off again.

Sound like a plan?

The reason I think it's Ip's is because of her pooh. Check out the pictures above. Something white hanging from her anus.
I sent a pm to pp, I know she has more experience with fw puffers. I told her, she could post her response here. I'll wait to see what she says then if I have too start another thread I will. :(
