Pandora, I agree with PP. You should put the irrubesco in your 10g. Right now he/she is at a fish store which is probably on centralized filtration which passes on every germ and parasite. Even if it's not centralized you said he's stressed and very thin, it's only a matter of time before he's dead, it's better being in a 10g than dead! He might have parasites too. If you get him and put him in your 10g you could prob find someone on this forum who's looking for an irrubesco and work something out with them. Another option is you can wait a year or so and upgrade to a 20g.

PUFFER RULES
Do not take your Puffer out of water (you can kill them)
Change water at least 1x a week
Change water immediately if there is high Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate
Monitor water levels (PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, SG,etc.)
Give your Puffer snails to wear down his/her teeth
Soak dry food with tank water/vitamin water
When buying a Puffer look for one with a fat belly
Do not take your Puffer out of water (you can kill them)
Change water at least 1x a week
