Hey guys,
I went to my LFS and saw a tank full of figure 8's. Most of them were in rough rough shape.. fins were missing.. one of them looked half dead. I saw about 4 that were ok, so I picked up the smallest one with a small bite off one of his fins (his top fin.. dorsal?) I have him temporarily in my 5 gallon quarantine tank. He seems ok.. hes pacing up and down the glass. I fed him some blood worms and brine shrimp (frozen)
My main question is.. at about 1.5 inches long what kind of food can I feed him to help trim his teeth down? I know I can give him some pond snails.. I also read the article in the library.
If I decide to feed him frozen mussels, what size of mussel should I feed him? Sorry for such a noob question.. I just want to make sure I am feeding him correctly

the articles have all the best info for you. the thing with the mussels is that you need to remove nearly all the meat, so he has to scrape his teeth on the shell to get something to eat.

I feed mostly pond snails to keep my F8's teeth trimmed. I've only had him for about two months, but he seems to be doing very well. I give him the whole snail (the largest one is about 1/4 inch diameter).
I'm also planning on breeding cherry shrimp that I'm hoping will help also.

Mine eat mostly bloodworms, krill, mysis shrimp, all either frozen or freeze dried. I keep trying snails and he keeps turning them down, so I'm going to have to figure out something with that sooner than later.
