rocks rather than sand?

Is it ok to have gravel or rocks on the bottom, rather than having sand? Does it really even matter? Thanks, Jennifer

well sand is harder to keep clean and the rocks tend to hold more benificial bacteria. The sand just looks better IMO.

Sand or gravel is fine its your preference. Using large rocks that you cant move with a syphon will make it really difficulty to keep clean. Gravel is the easiest.

I prefer sand than gravel. IME is easier to remove the dirt because it can't pass through the sand. I've seen that there are more area between gravel to hold dirt. It's up to you.
