DP wont eat

I have tried almost everything. He's in a 2.5g which i do 50% frequently. I've tried frozen blood worms, frozen Daphnia and even snails. He just stares at them up and down the glass. I've had him a week now. He could still be settling in but I'm worried about him.

Do you think there might be a chance he is eating at night? How is he acting normally? Does he greet you? Does his belly look sunken in?

I know for the most part he sleeps at night. He's just laying around during the day, hiding and not coming to see me. I'll try leaving a few blood worms during the night. And I think his belly looks a little sunken. It's hard to tell when he doesn't come into sight.

you could try smashing the snails against the glass of the tank, that might work.

If his belly is sunken in then he might have a case of some internal parasites. Check the library section on parasites. http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/lib ... treatment/
Also have you checked you parameters?

Whenever we get these in at work LFS /PS I start them on live brine. One or two meals and they will go to the frozen. Some will go to frozen brine or blood worm right away but live brine is a sure thing.

What are your water parameters?(all the ones listed at the top of this forum). If there's a problem with them, that might have something to do with the puffers lack of appetite. My experience is any trace of ammonia or nitrite, and DPs go off their feed.

I think it's to late for him now. I am unable to check the parameters because I need to buy a kit at the moment. I tried leaving food in there at night but in the morning it was all there so I just cleaned it all up. He just lays around now and when he does swim he spirals. So I think it's just a matter of time now.

Try this: Do a 90% water change. Get nearly every bit of the water out, and see if he perks up.

I did the change but I just check in on him a few minutes ago to find him stuck in the filter intake. I had to lift the filter out of the water to get him out...I placed him in a small cup of water to see if he was still breathing and nothing. I think he might have been sick when i got him because I bought neon tetras the same day i got him and one of the neons died the next day.

Ouch, sorry. How long was the tank set up before adding him?

I know it was a bad move but I had set it up the same day I got him but the filter was mature and I had the intent on doing changes to make sure it stayed safe for him.

The mature filter is usually enough, but without a test kit, you can never be sure.

Hope he gets better. IMO, a 2.5G is not big enough for a DP.
