Easy fw puffers that will do fine in a 29gal.
Easy fw puffers that will do fine in a 29gal.
Well last summer I was looking into setting up my 29gal. for dwarf puffers. That never happened and I am dieing to set up this tank, I already have the filter(aqua clear 55) and heater(stealth-forgot how many watts). I still need to get the substrate which I plan to be pool filter sand and all the decor. I just registered and noticed how many fw puffers there were. So are there any other fw puffers that would do fine in a 29gal.

Have you looked into the Pufferpedia here? Recommended tank sizes are listed. If you're willing to go light-BW, a couple of F8s & a few tank mates wold do nicely in there.

Ya I have been looking. I was just wondering peoples oppinions on types of puffers that they think are easy to care for. The problem I have with getting certain fish that I want is the selection I have at the stores. I've seen one puffer at this one place that I think was labeled target puffer and at the time I had no idea what it was but I thought it was cool, other than tearing up a beta that was in the same tank...

WHAT???
I wouldn't support any kind of a store that did that to a betta!

yeah that is pretty awful, I wouldn't use that store unless you have no other choice.
I think the best thing in your situation regarding your puffer choice is to see what is available to you and then research them on here. Your first priority is to cycle the tank, check the library section for the Fishless cycling article if you are unsure of how best to do it
As PP says with a low BW setup you could have some lovely F8 and these are farily common, FW alternatives would be about 8 DPs, or 2SAP's maybe. Some of the target puffers could be OK for that tank but it depends whether you want action. Find out exactly what species the target is and if they don't know get a picture and see if we can ID it. However even if the store have an ID the chances of it being accurate are low as the target puffers are difficult to differentiate

Ya I haven't been to that store in a long time. I know how to cycle a tank, I got the filter a while back so I could put it on my 10gal with my cray in it so it would be a lot easier to cycle my 29gal. when the time came. I need to call the stores and see what they have and figure out when the petsmart is going to open, pretty excited about it opening.
