Any advice for a little diodon holocanthus!

Hi gyus! After one year of waiting for the best time to come, two days before, I bought a 4 inch diodon holocanthus and he is the cutest puffer I have ever seen! BUT! Two days have past and the only thing he is doing, is glass surfing all the time! He is don't eat anything! I gave him krill, shrimp (frozen and dried) and snails. Nothing! He is in 55g tank with live sand and rock. I make him and one cave in the center but he never go inside! I don't know what to do! How much time he want to learn his new home and eat? Pls tell me what to do!

while i dont have any experience with this species, i know it is common for all puffer to take a while to settle in and start eating.

with lots of decor to explore, you might stop some of the glass surfing ---

55g is too small according to the pufferpedia - he will eventually need 120 gals min

im sure someone else with more knowledge of the species will chime in here soon, but congrats on the new puffer

Thanks Mike! I'll keep him in this tank for only 6 months until I'll finish my 125g. Now he stopped glass surfing and he is exploring the water pumps! I hope in the next hours start eating!

What are you feeding him? My baby porc would only eat bloodworms at first and I'm slowly weening her onto better foods. I think a lot of it is because she needs soft food because she really doesn't seem to like hard shelled foods.

I saw today a 2 inch diodon holocanthus in a shop and he eats dried shrimps! I took some to give to my puffer but he doesn't eat it!

he should come around and eat just fine -- may take a week or more though -- keep at it

how is its tummy >? sunken or slightly rounded -- i'm not positive, but i think interal parisites are common with porcs -- you may need to de-worm him

My lil 2" burrfish ate the 2nd say i had him. I didn't bother him w/food on the 1st day. Of course, he has come competition for food with his tank mates. He shares shrimp tail w/his Valentini friend.

His tummy is slighty round. The one's I saw on the shop tummy was sunken! I don't think is parasites! Maybe he needs more time!

Try live foods. My porc went crazy for ghost shrimp the first time I fed them to her.

The freshwater ghost shrimps or there are and saltwater?

Ghost shrimp are generally FW to slightly brackish, but they will survive at least a few days in a SW tank. That is if the puffer doesn't eat them immidately.
