Too much filtration?

Hey guys, I've got two gsp's in a 270 litre tank, I've got two cannister filters on the tank, a fluval 405 and a 406. I've just got the tank to full marine lately so also chucked a deltec mcd406 hob skimmer on it. Question is now I've got the skimmer do you think I can safely do away with one of the cannister filters to save a bit of power?

P.s. I'm also about to start carbon dosing.

Thanks

How much live rock is in there?

None yet, that's the next step. What I do have is 3kg of biomax ultimate in the 406 which is a very good porus media

LR is the MAIN source of filtration for a SW tank.

Yes I understand that, and it's coming very soon (I've been raising salinity slowly and now at 0.026), getting rid of one of the cannister filters is partly to help fund that. Biohome is an incredible media with a huge surface area it is keeping the tank in check currently, amonia is zero and nitrates at 15, I'm starting carbon dosing to get that and phosphates down a little. I know a sump would be better but that's not possible for now and in the UK it's not so uncommon to run marine on a cannister.

Are you keeping corals? You mean 1.026?

No, just two gsp's. I read lots of opinions on salinity, all very conflicting but the one consistent was 1.026 is generally what sea water is naturally and also that the skimmer will work better at a higher salinity

No reason to raise higher than 1.020, unless you're keeping corals. Waste of $alt. Your tank is certainly ready for LR but make sure it's cured!

Got some live rock in today and I've took out the older of the two cannister filters :) they are both fascinated by it :) way more so than the beach rocks I had in before :)

Where idd it come from? Does it have any odor at all? You need to take that rock & cure it before adding it to your tank!

No odur, it came from a guy I've bought things from before, he sells all sorts out of his home. He has a tank full of live rock only that he sells off, all mature. I went to him because my lfs only sells uncured. He sells fish, corals, rock, everything really. There's not many good fish stores in my area, the two best places are people licenced from homd and doing viewings by appointment.

I'm really pleased with it. I got 15kg live and 5kg dry. Need to get a powerhead because the flows been cut in half now there's only one cannister (the skimmers trickling through floss so doesn't add any current at all) and I'd like to upgrade the t8 lighting to T5 or led then I'll be satisfied :) I might try a cheap soft coral in there once that's set in place just to see what happens but if it doesn't go to plan I'm more than pleased with these two little guys :) I've been lucky in that they get on very well and even tho one is growing much faster than the other (now able the others size) the smaller one is the braver so holds his own. The bigger one actually puffed up for a second the other week, was quite amazing how big they get when that happens

Get rid of the floss.

I would but the microbubbles are currently insane without it, I've tried all the other usual things advised with my skimmer and nothing works which I'm lead to believe my water needs to mature as apparently freshly mixed salt water hold bubbles a lot longer
