Losing an inch of water in a 55g tank in a week. A Concern?
Over the past few months I am having to top off my 55g marine tank more often and it seems as its losing about an inch of water over a period of 7-10 days. I do have a glass top with a skimmer running. I cannot find any signs of leaking. There is not an exposed window to encourage evaporation and the LED light strip is on about 10 hours a day. Thoughts?

If no signs of leaks it must just be evaporation. Is the whole tank and sump covered? I use a Perspex sheet to cover most of my sump to reduce evaporation, still have to top off a lot though
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Where is the tank located?
I have mine in the basement where I have to run a dehumidifier. this time of year (winter) when the air starts to get dry, I notice a lot more evaporation. I lose about 3/4" a week so I don't think 1" a week is unreasonable.

We lose roughly 1 inch of water to evaporation in our 30 and 20 g tanks in our apartment, and we run a humidifier.

Definitely, I feel better about only losing 3/4" a week now. Ha!

Well all my tanks are together in a corner of a living room area with little to no sunlight exposure on a north wall. They have glass tops except for my smallest tanks. The odd thing is it is just my largest SW tank that is losing water this quick. The FW ones of any size take 3x longer to lose water. Only thing I can suspect is that the HOB skimmer is somehow causing the loss.

That is certainly possible, plus a large surface area.
