weird thing in refugium

Post by Welch4 »

So I was doing my chaeto trimming, I had a red slime breakout in my fuge so was doing a more thorough trimming to get rid of the slime and found this on top of my mud layer at the bottom. The fuge has been setup for around 6 months. Any ideas on what is it? I have a pair of fluval plant tongs in the back for comparison.

Part of the fun of having a refugium is not knowing what's going to end up growing in it.

The other part of the 'fun' is sticking your hand in it and feeling something grab it! :)

Yea I cant even thin out my cheato by hand anymore. Stuff is crawling with bristleworms. I also use my fuge as a jail for any pest that come in corals and plugs. There are two very unhappy crabs in there now that ripped through all of my sps. The sponge is kind of taking over the tank. Doesnt seem to be effecting anything besides needing to scrape off the koralia now.
