I have a feeling I know the answer; however, I wanted to run a quick check.

I'm planning a 40g Breeder marine tank to move my GSP into in the next couple of months (as soon as my back heals and I finish building the stand i'll order the live rock and begin the cycle) and I wanted to know if stocking a single lawnmower blenny once the tank is mature and has something for it to graze on, and/or a single tomato would be setting the stage for disaster.

My initial gut feeling is 40g breeder is too small.

Yeah I think most people here would say it's too small... Maybe a 55 would be better? My 29g inhabitants are moving into the 55 and the 29 will become a sump/Rogers new home...

Edit: it really depends on your gsp... Olive has been very nice to everything in her tank, but I know she could turn at any time... That's why I'm going to set up the 55 with small caves and crevices she couldn't squeeze into

Definitely NO tankmates in a 40g. The LR will be taking up a lot of room in there, if you follow the 1 1/2-2lbs per gal rule with it.

40 is too small. I tried a single small dragon goby in with my gsp in a 40 long. Purley for its sand cleaning but he has grown extremely fast, has gotten very territorial, and has started to bite my gsp. Time to go.

OMG i never though of that! Im in the process of moving to a traditional stand and sump and have always wanted a mantis. YES!!!!

Great! Thanks for the replies. That's pretty much what I figured. At the end of the day, it's the GSP's "forever" home. No need to crowd it out.

I'm thinking about housing most of my live rock in the sump with just enough rock in the display to keep the GSP comfortable and not bored.

I agree. I had a 40 gallon breeder with a GSP and a bullet goby and it seemed crowded. Fortunately they got along fine with each other, but if I ever planned to do that again I'd upgrade to at least a 55.

My marine gsp attacks anything I try to put in his tank!:-(
