Is my tank cycling again?
Re: Is my tank cycling again?
its the same for both just like prime and pretty much all their products.
so what do you suggest I do about the filter situation? i got my test kit in and everything is good except the nitrates, so you're right there.
edit- im guessing a sump? would this work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/1912308675 ... =82&chn=ps
im guessing pipe comes in through the sock, protein skimmer goes in that large area, black sponge is a bubble trap, then the last compartment goes a pump/hose up to the tank? what else would i need?

Re: Is my tank cycling again?
took some pics. he goes from white belly to dark instantly when he sees me hold up my phone. last 2 times i tried to take a pic he splashed me, was lucky to get this pic. and last is the protein skimmer i got showing the good job its doing. can't believe i ran his tank without one.
looked it up and got the materials to just make my own sump and overflow how i think would work best for me.
will update more in a few days. ordered a 165w led light to go over it.
oh, the filter on the left is off, just the one on the right is on until i get the sump all set up and sorted.

That's a very nice looking fish.
I'd say your new skimmer is doing its thing with gusto.

thanks! when we got him his tail was half nipped off but it grew back. hes usually white, just hates my phone for some reason. hes at least 3 inches long and maybe a year old. not sure how old he was when we got him but he was about the size of a bottle cap.

I recognize those spots.... Are you sure you have a GSP and not a T. Sabahensis like I had? Do some research and check out the pictures of the species. I say this because they ultimately end up in a freshwater system. I lost mine partially because of this. Hoping I'm wrong.
Your rock scape looks great and you have a beautiful fish. I would defintley get tht sump and overflow done Ang get rid of the HOB filters like you are planning on.
You're doing a great job!

Re: Is my tank cycling again?
hmm, after looking at pics he looks pretty much exactly like a T. Sabahensis, especially when he gets dark on certain occasions. do they often get sold as leopard/gsp's? if thats the case and he needs to be in freshwater it looks like im going to have to rehome him or something, im not about to tear all this stuff down. i really really like the dude, but we put in $300+ in the last couple weeks getting it to where it is now :/ ugh.
the sump and overflow are done and working properly. just going to spray paint the overflow/return pipe black and ill be all set.
thanks for the info and comments, probably saved me some headaches.
edit- it says they get to ~10inches? makes sense why hes so big already as well. im definitely not going to have a tank capable of a 10inch puffer either. damn. i was going to ask if he would be fine in full marine since hes been in it for 8-10 months, but it doesnt really matter as i can't home a 10inch puffer in a 40gal tank and i have no plans on upgrading anytime soon

Re: Is my tank cycling again?
yeah im 99% sure its a T. Sabahensis. he looks and behaves a lot more like them in the videos ive seen . he's always never looked quite right to me compared to other gsp's ive seen, and now it makes sense.
so what should I do now? im guessing calling a LFS seeing if they will take him or put him on craigslist? i dont want to kill him by keeping him in full salinity
