Beautiful, complex and discussed here. The marine fish and reef section.

Friend or Foe.... Aiptasia?

Post by supgirl »

Just wondering if someone can help me determine the identity of this single polyp in my Green Button zoa's. I have a rock with about 50+ green button zoa's and this one mystery guest. At first I thought is was a small nem, but now I'm wondering if it is the aiptasia pest.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, it is aptasia. I make a kalk paste, turn off the flow & blast it. Be sure to blow the kalk off your zoas.

Not only will it sting it's neighbors, it will multiply & take over the tank choking everything out.

Well I pulled the rock out, injected the pest and made sure to remove the entire blob. Rinsed the area with water and place back in the tank. Hopefully I caught and removed it before it spread. The buttons are all open and happy for now. I will keep watching for future invaders :?
Thanks for your help PP!
