Re-Aquascaping tomorrow

Post by xvCODY »

Tomorrow i'll be re-aquascaping my 30g reef. I've been on a winning battle against hair algae but i want the main source of the problem gone which i believe is a small "nook" in between 2 rocks that's gathering detritus. The main worry i have is, how long can live rock be out of the water before i have negative effects?

I'd say at least a few hours. I had some that was out of the water when I moved, and I didn't see too much of a negative effect. PP prolly knows better, but to be on the safe side, I would say no longer than 3 hours. As long as it's kept damp, and not sitting in direct sunlight, I think you should be ok. When mine was out, I had it sitting on painter's plastic in the house, so it never really dried out. HTH

LoL np! Glad that what little experience I had was able to help. ^.^ Good luck with the re-aquascaping. LoL I did that too, and it took way longer than was intended, but the end results were well worth it ^.^

5 minutes would be much better. Within a short time, bacteria starts dying off causing another cycle.

Here's a FTS before the re-scape.

Here are shots of the tank now. Mind the mess in the water, i just did some cleaning inside. =]

I don't have a very nice camera (Like a DSLR) to take nice shots of all my coral so here's a shot of my biggest zoa colony. The colony has spread out over the 2 months i've had it and every head has doubled in size, if not gotten bigger. The biggest one is about 3 inches long and about an inch across the front.
