Sand from LFS?

Post by gnbpilot@yahoo.com »

I was wondering, since I live on the water, would it be ok to use the sand at the beach in my new 55 gallon to start the cycle?

I'd bake it high and long first...and also most beaches it's illegal to take the sand...a lot of beaches the sand is paid for and imported...just a heads up

I know few people that do, I don't....but it will work. They go a little way off shore and get it from there.

if you follow stangd1909 with getting the sand offshore, don't forget to cure and quarantine it. it's live sand, so you have to follow the same steps as you would fresh live rock so you don't pollute your tank
i'm busy thinking of ways to remember what i was going to say

Seems like as PITA, since sand from the hardware or pool store is so cheap, in large quantities.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Agree, that's why I just get it from LFS lol. I know some people that swear getting it from the ocean is better. I always look at them funny.
