Kenny's Reefs
I haven't gotten this one stable enough to add in other inhabitants or corals yet...BUT...it's kinda my baby...
It's going to be upgraded to my 29 which is currently holding FW; dechlorinizing from the bleach cleaning/disinfecting...
Thanks for looking!

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
Cool tank, but I would recommend getting the calupera out of there ASAP!!! It will dominate the tank in no time! It's actually banned from what I read in many states, starting with FL, because it has decimated major amounts of sea floor in that area.

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
Which one is the calupera???
I upgraded the tank tonight to a 5.5gal while I collect the funds to get the 29 fully setup [at which time the 2 tanks will become one]...
It's only a quarter full or so because I only had what water was in the 5.5.
I'm currently mixing the rest of the water for the tank; but at .5gal a pop; it's going unbearably slow...
I sooo wish I had bigger containers, :\

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
The stringy looking stuff in pick 2 and 4, appear to be caulepra (sorry, I spelled it wrong before.)
You mix the water in a 1/2 gallon container? You can get a 5 gallon bucket from homedepot for around $5

It doesn't appear like caulepra to me; but I've been wrong...
Here is what the tank looks like now[now I know for sure there is caulepra]:

i would say no to the skimmer. all the little ones just fizzle and bubble but dont produce anything. Just topping off the evap will be enough

Topping off wouldn't remove anything. I do agree that skimmers aren't always necessary with small tanks but usually larger volume water changes are best to remove waste.Mezzovex wrote:i would say no to the skimmer. all the little ones just fizzle and bubble but dont produce anything. Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
Since I'm upgrading to a 29; perhaps I can find a good [hopefully quiet???] skimmer!
Tons more LR to come....and I've been keeping up with 25% WC's each week[well atleast until I dropped my hygrometer & broke it...lol].
I believe all my snails are tidal; so they will be going back soon and I'm going to start stocking up on what I really want for my 29[CUC in here + maybe a tiny fish].

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
Ok...so I just decided to "kill" the 10gal FW tank and turn it marine...
I really started hating it...lol BUT...an upside to that is I have more room for him:
The hygrometer says my tank is good and it's running @ 1.025. Perfect, no?
My 10 currently has:
1x Firefish Goby
2x Blue Legged Hermit Crabs
1x Astrea Snail[I actually wanted another; but he was the only one]
2x Nassarius Snails
Baracles
Macro-Algae
and hopefully soon a few mushroom corals...

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
That depends on how accurate your hydrometer is. I've had several and they are always many points off from one another.kENNY wrote:The hygrometer says my tank is good and it's running @ 1.025. Perfect, no?
I like the dartfish but i didn't have much luck. I hope you have a lid:) My dog found him flopping on the floor and brought him to me. I saved him that day but he jumped again a week later.

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
I would definitely try to use a skimmer. Its gonna do wonders on your tank and make it clear up extra fast after WCs. Once youve seen one in action I think it safe to say a WC will not get that stuff out unless its a huge WC which u dont wanna do with smaller SW tanks

Re: Kenny's 2.5gal Pico "Reef"
You should consider getting a new hydrometer or refractometer. And maybe one of the suction cup in tank/in sump hydrometer as a back up to make sure your SG readings are right. My hydrometer is a pain but with two it helps. I keep one in the sump so I can always see the SG.
