Hi all
I'm new to this forum. 1 month ago I setup a 30 gallon at 1.005 for 2 F8s. I use 2 hangback filter with bio-rings and crushed corals. I started off doing fishless cylcling putting in around 2ppm NH3 alternate days. NH3 was quickly consumed within a few days but the NO2 stays high 4-5ppm for almost a month now. Is there something wrong I did? I have mangroves in there which have started to grow roots.

Did you 1/2 the dose of ammonia after you saw nitrite?

I didn't and continue adding NH3 every 2-3 days. After 2 weeks I stopped adding NH3 and found a live bacteria sold by API. (http://www.apifishcare.com/product.php? ... dKfw1Oqqko). I read that it works from the review and hence tried it out. At the same time, I got 2 F8s from LFS who had limited supply. I thought I can use the API live bacteria and accelerate the cycle and in the meantime change water every 2 days to maintain the F8s. It's been 2 weeks now and the nitrite never gone down. After changing 75% of water, it goes down to 0.5ppm and goes up to 2-3 ppm in 2 days. I've continuously change water every 2 days.
I'm curious why the cycle hasn't establish even after 1 month. In my past experience on freshwater, NO2 goes down after 2 weeks.
