Will this sand work?
I stopped at Petsmart and only saw one kind of aragonite sand. It is called Top Fin Oolite Aragonite Sand. Will that be suitable for Figure Eight puffers? Or is there a different aragonite sand I should use?

The finer the grain the more surface area you get. Great for good bacteria and microbes and also great for buffering.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Just make the depth no deeper than 1".

Good point!bertie 83 wrote:The finer the grain the more surface area you get. Great for good bacteria and microbes and also great for buffering.
I was reading that 1" at the most was best. It took a couple days for the "cloud" to settle down but my aquarium is starting to look good. : )Pufferpunk wrote:Just make the depth no deeper than 1".

That's good to hear. Thick beds of substrate can be a pita, I have a thick patch in my fahaka tank which he levels out before I vac and scoop back to a heap. The tank with my eels in has about 2.5" because he buries and burrows etc, that is really annoying to clean, especially of I make the eels jump cos boy than can move lol. Anyhoo, there probably is a point in my waffle somewhere lol. Oh yes, keep it fairly shallow as pp said lol.

+1 to PP's & bertie's comments above. Aragonite is the best for BW by a huge margin, and an inch or less is plenty. Beyond that requires specialized handling and extra hassle.
