Brown Stuff on Driftwood

Hello all, I’m wondering if anyone can identify what this brown, kinda fuzzy stuff on my spiderwood is. I looked online but I didn’t see anything too similar, but I’m thinking it could be fungus or mold. It comes off whenever I move the wood and makes a huge mess, so I’d like to know what it is so I can treat it. Thank you.
