55 Gallon Puffer(s)

Post by Scamper »

Hi All,

Newbie to puffers here, but have been in the hobby for years (mostly mbuna and SA Chiclids for the past 20 years).

I have a 55 Gallon long with a Eheim classic 600 and Aquaclear 500. It has some cichlids that are keeping it cycled at the moment, but they are going to be rehomed as soon as I have my puffer situation dialed in.

So, my options for puffers are Hairy, Congo and South American.

I've never done a single fish tank before, so that sounds different and exciting. South Americans would be a small school of about 4 from what I've read. This is my only tank (other than a small snail farm).

So, should I go with a single larger or a group of SA. I like the idea of a single large since its something I've not done before. Will it still be active enough to entertain my 6 year old daughter(and my cats (if he or she could eat the cats, some days I'd be ok with that too)?

Thanks for your attention :)

Hank

Personally, for a tank that size I'd get a GSP or Palembang.

I have a fairly large collection of SA cichlids & plecos. What do you keep?

Previously Cichlids. Mostly had great luck with them. Lots of breeding. Lots of fighting.

I see a dragon on one of the online sites and lots of hairy's. Are they any breeders/online fish stores that you'd suggest.

Thanks for replying even though I posted in the wrong forum. LOL.

Well, I ended up ordering an orange abe. I thought about going with GSP (didn't see any Ceylons out there), but decided I didn't want to try Brackish with my canister set up.

Near as I can tell, it comes down to the color of the spots. But, that's just Google researching and as you know there seem to be lots of holes in info about Puffers.
