Okay So I have my new/used 135 gallon and its diiiirrrrtttyy...I am using diluted vineger (as it came 5%, not with any added water) and i managed to get some algae cleaned off of the glass. This used to be a marine aquarium and it has a lot of pink coral residue on the back glass and some on the sides. I kind of scraped off the thinner layers but the thick part is to much of a hassle. the guy at my LFS said that i can just add water and wait a while and the freshwater itself with the lower PH should make it flake off and all I need then is a razor blade and it should come right off....
My question now is can i just add that vinegar into the system and speed up the process and do large partials to slowly get rid of the remaining vinegar or is that too hazardous and I may contaminate the filtration system?
Keep in mind this filter has not been active in months and it has not established any bacteria colonies so I am in no danger of ruining a cycle because it has not started yet.

Line the panes with newspaper & go to the hardware store & get "pure" vinegar, acetic acid & soak the newspaper with it.

You're still gonna want to rinse everything after you get it all clean.

Did your glass come out clear? Mine looks clear but when the light is on it has a little of a hazey tint to it. Wondering if mine has the same problem.

Yea its clear but I use blue lights so it hides imperfections quite well.boosted23 wrote:Did your glass come out clear? Mine looks clear but when the light is on it has a little of a hazey tint to it. Wondering if mine has the same problem.
