Did My Snails Lay Fertile Eggs?

I have about 16 little snails I got about 4 days ago from Walmart. They are just your common little pond snail, used as food for my two gsp. I had just moved the snails and their dirty water into a bowl so I could clean out their tank and noticed little groupings of squishy clear spheres all seemingly glued together and also to the tank wall. They have small little dots in the middle of each. I decided to pour the water and snails back in until I figured out if these were fertilized snail eggs. If so, what kind of care do they need and when can I expect baby snails?

Sounds like snail eggs. They will take care of their selves. I am not sure how long they take to hatch but someone will soon pop in and answer that one lol

Here is an article on snail breeding: library/feeding/basic-snail-breeding/
And here is a thread about it that may cover potential problems: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=27597&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=Speed
It's a great idea to have a tank set up to breed snails, almost a necessity!

Yep you got snail eggs. No clue how long they will take to hatch though. I never paid that close attention

7 to 10 days to have "normal" baby snails! they will burrow on the substrate and you will see them when they reach 2 or 3 mm!

Lucky you!

By the way, some snails reproduce by parthenogenesis, so when they become adults don't need a girl or a boy to have babies, they can do it by them selves

I don't think the most common species that humans keep do though (i.e. ponds and ramshorns). They're hermaphrodites and can store sperm IIRC.

But MTS (Malaysian Trumpet Snails) are partehogenic females. They are terrible pests if you keep puffers as they are not suited to feeding with their ultra-hard shells.

Could an anentome Helena destroy them?

This is an old thread. If you wish to find out more why not start a topic? Snails are easily bred
