EXACTLY how did you cycle the tank without live rock? If you bought "bagged" live sand, there is nothing live about it.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Of course I did. But you never quoted your source. Are you saying you got it from someone's established system?
It is easier to sell a juvie, because they are cute & easier to transport.

PP is correct.
Do you have a rugby ball handy? That is the size without the tail. In all honesty, there is no "couple years" with these guys. Once they reach adult size and are still young (puberty for us), they will need much more room then you are currently supplying. If an upgrade in the next few months isn't feasible, then the next best thing is to sell it or trade it in for something that your tank can handle.
That fingerling in the tank will soon be a size 44 boot (mens 10.5 for us north americans) with the energy to go with it.

Talk to the fish store and tell them they gave you inaccurate info. They should take it back and give you a refund or at least store credit.
There are many knowledgeable fish keepers on this forum willing to help and give great advice...The advice is free; What you choose to do with it gives it value.

We are telling you the right thing to do. I ask again about the cycling of this tank?

Re: stars and stripes juvenile
I was told by a 'very experienced aquarist' that I only need to add the live sand (crushed coral sand) and decor, set up the filter and leave it to run for 3 weeks I have recently researched the importance of live rock so is it possible to add it now?

Re: stars and stripes juvenile
and the sand came in a bag but apparently all natural sand becomes 'live' after a period of time (as mentioned on the link) and it apparently provides a form of filtration similar to live rock but I am not doubting your knowledge and only want what is best for my fish and aquarium.

Every single thing you have been told is a lie. Please test the ammonia, nitrite & nitrate of your tank.
