vampire face dogfish

Post by seacowz »

i don't actually own a dogfaced puffer myself but last night i went to a local bar and inbetween body shots and table dances I saw that they have a ~200 gallon aquarium there with a large (~1ft) dogfaced puffer. It had teeth that were too long for it to close it's mouth, but when it yawned we saw it could still open it a ways. For dogfaced puffers is this natural or should I reccomend they feed him harder foods? (they've had him for years)

If it's that big and it's teeth are that long it sounds like they may have done previous trimmings. I'd ask them about it just to be safe.

Sounds like a long-term poor diet of soft foods. Dentistry is needed.

lol, yes it is a quite fantastic bar.
so i read the teeth trimming article, and would i just suggest a bigger container same ratio clove oil to water or does it need to be more concentrated for this big of a puff? and how dangerous is the clove-oil procedure, because when it yawns I can still see an inch of space between its teeth...does that mean they can begin feeding hard foods and the teeth will wear down so they can avoid dentistry? what would be the best food for a dogface puffer to wear down its teeth? anything besides snails?

If he has an inch of clearance still, hard foods like mussels etc are the way to go rather than trimming.

Remember... feeding crunchy foods will prevent teeth from growing any longer--it will not make them shorter.
