another new addition to my little family

Post by staindsk1n »

can you believe he was in the fish shop for ages and no one fell in love with him....i had a volitans lionfish but i can never get any of them that i've owned to eat, but wanted to try again as i thought it would be a change from owning puffers, but after 3 weeks with him not showing signs of taking food even when i sat up until 3.00am to feed him in the dark I took him back and got this guy....he's really friendly, he's always pottering about blowing in the sand, if i was to be honest i prefer it to the volitans but the girlfriend said i was going puffer mad.....i think you all know what thats like

He is so cute. Looks like he was meant to be yours. :D He's much better than a lionfish. Congrats on your new addition.

i think somebody exchanged him in, i presume they had to small tank or something but whoever had him has taken really good care of him. sometimes he goes a really pale grey colour, normally just before feeding. Thats when he looks best i think. I bought another lionfish for my other marine tank but this time a dwarf zebra lion, he seems to be doing okay, not sure if he has eaten much again but im gonna keep my fingers crossed because he is in excellent condition.....one of the best ive seen.

I envy all of you who can adopt so many cute puffers and other fish. I don't have the energy, space, or extra cash. Someday though I want a huge marine tank to put my dream fish into. Waiting patiently...

Congrats on the new puffer and lion. Post a pic of the lion if he works out. Your puffer & trigger is gorgeous. Great shots!

with regard to your lions... can you get river shrimp and gut load them? Works with both my dwarf fuzzy and my fu manchi...

then i've found that if you wait until they start looking hunter-ish, yiou know, jigging about and starting the cruise the tank, yawning etc...

get a piece of frozen prawn and throw it fast enough at the top of the tank so it scoots past through the water past the lion, it seems to be the momentum that gets them, both of mine will strike before they've realised it's not alive... often the first piece catches their attention but they're not mobile enough to catch it, they always get the second piece...

puffer's beautiful by the way, but i'm very fond of Lions as well.... :-)

Try some mashed up banana for the Lionfish. I have used it to get picky Moorish Idols to eat. Also lionfish can go a long time without eating if he is agitated or stressed. I am sure he will come around. :)
