Fahaka puffer.

Post by bigblue »

Hi all,
New to this forums but been using a lot.
Am wondering about fahaka puffers and tank cleaning.
Will they bite when u clean the tank.
Looking to get one and put in 1800 x 600 x 600 tank 650 litres or a 430l tank 1500 x 55 x 60.Would prefer smaller one as I don't know how floor will handle 650kgs.
What kind of substrate will be good?

Tanks in advance and such a good site.
I currently have 7 DP in 70 litre fully planted and 2 figure of 8's in brackish.

430 is way too small. Go with a larger tank or a different fish. Yes, many people should be afraid of a large, adult fahaka. They can be quite menacing. I know a few people who put up a separating wall to keep the puffer on one side of the tank, while they clean the other & visa versa. Even thought mine is friendly, I still remove my hand when he comes near me.

Slightly on the fahaka biting topic.

Bigblue, this wall is obviously here for a reason.

Turn your speaker volume way up. These two fellows are striking their
separator with enough speed and motivation for you to actually hear their
teeth impact.

Video - 28 secs.

PP, I just edit reloaded the video using the youtube ID box and it's running fine for me. I'm running Firefox
and using their adobe plug-in to smooth things out on my old computer.

If you want the full URL for this Fahaka video from YouTube it's:
