Feeding ocean snails

Post by stiffy84 »

I live quite close to the Atlantic ocean with an unlimited supply of snails and small crabs living in rock ponds. Are there any risks feeding a Figure 8 puffer fish wild caught marine snails and small crabs?

Should be QT'd for a while. Also, they're going to have to be very small or you're going to need to smash them. Might be better off freezing 1st & then you can defrost, smash & feed.

Thanks. They range from a few mm to about 20mm. I had the idea to collect them in bulk and to freeze them. Will have to think about quarentining. If it gets to that point I will start with smaller snails and take it from there. I've read about teeth over growing so I would prefer him or her to do all the smashing on its own.

Even when you smash them, the puffer still scrapes their teeth on the shells to get the meat out.
