New GSP day. Pics and questions.

Post by 1st timer »

Got this little guy today and i have a question concerning some marks/spots on his body. He shared a small 20 gallon with another gsp of similar size for the last 3 days prior to my lfs picking him up from his supplier. Besides the normal black spots on his body, do the other ones look like bit marks? Dorsal fin is nipped so i'm guessing the other marks are bit marks. The other gsp in the tank had nipped fins also. He's about 1.5"

Your images are not showing up on my end. Don't worry too much about nips etc, this is fairly common. As long as they aren't open red sores or anything they shouldn't be a problem. Just ensure you provide clean water and even dose with melafix to accelerate the healing.

I can see at least one bite mark there. Keep the water clean and he should be fine. Those fins will heal
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

I've kept all sorts of piranhas for the past 20 years and i've seen some nasty bites heal up pretty quick. Do puffers heal up quickly?

Yes remarkably, they have rubbery skin so it's more bruising than anything else. Fins can repair real quick too
