Puffer Mainly Swimming Up and Down
Puffer Mainly Swimming Up and Down
Hi there--
I have a GSP who has been brackish for 2 weeks, I have had him a month.
He tends to just swim up and down, I have heard this is boredom.
Any ideas on how to stop this or make it less frequent!
Thanks!!

Could we have some details on the tank. Specifically size, decor, powerheads. Mine had similar behavior before i provided an engaging eviroment for him. Giving your puff areas to explore and plenty of flow will minimize this behavoir. Mine still likes to do little circles at one end of the tank but much less than before.

Was it your puffer that had the odd yet amusing obsession with circling the magfloat in the tank?Welch4 wrote:Mine still likes to do little circles at one end of the tank but much less than before.
WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

Sure no problem!!
He is in a 40 gallon tank. Yesterday I added a circulation pump, which I heard is good to mimic the flow of a river. I am attaching a picture. I have a long way to go with décor in the tank, but advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!

I wouldn't invest too much in decor at your SG, unless you have the stuff laying around... Get it up to SW ASAP & then you can add cool stuff like live rock in there!

Thanks Pufferpunk -- Should I keep the tank brackish or go more towards full salt water -- that is what yours looks like
I just cannot get over how larger your puffers are!!

That is the average size (6") an adult GSP grows to. You can make your tank SW at any time, just raise the SG .002/week.

This is great info--
A puffer can be healthly not completely saltwater right? Just curious in case I am not ready for 100% salt water

Yes sir. I got ripped apart by a few people for that video. But now i have several live rock caves, tons to explore and to chase, an mp40, and a koralia 650. He still does laps around that mag float a couple hours a day.sgtmyers88 wrote:Was it your puffer that had the odd yet amusing obsession with circling the magfloat in the tank?Welch4 wrote:Mine still likes to do little circles at one end of the tank but much less than before.

A cave made out of live rock. Bot exactly a cave in my case rather arches but rockwork he can swim through and inspect for critters. As far as things to chase. One a week a crayfish. And i try to keep at least a few saltwater acclimated ghost shrimp.
