I'm setting up a 40 long brackish tank and planning 3 figure 8's. I may try some bumble bee gobys and see how it works.
How many BB gobys can I have in the 40 long with the 3 figure 8's? My plan is to use an AC 110 filter.
It will be a newly cycled tank, should I add the gobys first, the Figure 8's first, or does it matter?
Figure 8 / BB Goby question, please.

BBG's are territorial so if too many are added they will whittle themselves down, a rule that I've read In the past is add no more than 1 gobie for every 20cm diameter circle of the substrate surface which seems to be a fair recommendation, you may be able to add 1 or 2 more if you have higher perches for them to set up higher territories.joecc wrote:I'm setting up a 40 long brackish tank and planning 3 figure 8's. So for a tank with a 13 X 48 footprint, I'm looking at 3 plus 1-2 more potentially.
Thanks

Depends if you're talking cm or inches, if cm then yes between 2 & 3, maybe 4 if you have higher perches. If inches then you should get away with around 10, maybe 12 if you have higher perches.joecc wrote:So for a tank with a 13 X 48 footprint, I'm looking at 3 plus 1-2 more potentially.

The f8 will get the final decision, to my f8 they are tasty snack. Good luck!

Do you think I may have any better luck with a couple of Knight goby's instead, or who knows?G S P Freak wrote:The f8 will get the final decision, to my f8 they are tasty snack. Good luck!

I think you'll have luck with the BBGs, but honestly it will depend on your fish. Mine got along with my BBGs just fine...if they had black faces. It ate all of the ones that had yellow faces...or the other way around, I can't remember. Certain stripe patterns it would tolerate, others it would not. Either way, you wont know until they cohabitate for a while but, I think you'll be fine. I had somewhere around a 75-80% success rate.

My F8s ate every single BBG but got along fine with the knight Gs.
