which salt is best

Post by acerimmer »

hi, ive had my f8 for nearly a year now in fresh water, just got a aqua one 850 for his new home and now i want to start to turn into brackish for him, but am unsure which salt to use. Tonic salt, marine salt, sea salt, aquarium salt??

Marine salt. :)

I personally use Red Sea Coral Pro salt.

No idea how good it is in comparison to other marine salts but it was the only marine salt the LFS had at the time and I stuck with it.

Low end brackish water is not anywhere near the critical application that a reef requires. Any repubale marine mix will serves. I personally, from long habit, use "Instant Ocean" marine mix.

It is important for F-8s to have high KH (and resulting high pH). I use aragonite substrates to help keep the natural buffering high. Commercial buffers do not work for this use at all IME.
