my puffers are like 2 inches and only in 1.006 is that not high enough???? i always assumed id have to salt them up later on like 2 1/2 inches be at brackish than 3 inches high end brackish and 4 inches marine. am i wrong here???

also anyone have any luck with any marine species with gsps? cause i was thinking of putting a lion fish and a school of baby clown fish with mine.

It's funny now, but we get questions like that occasionally, then it's scary lol.

Yes.

About 8 months of 1.022 SG and counting.

I am very confused about his growth. He seems to be stuck at 3" long, 2" wide.

Did you notice any stress, lack of eating, poor coloration, weight loss, etc? Not at all. Other than perhaps poor coloration, he is never very bright.

Did you return it to brackish levels at any point?

No.

If it died, how long was it alive?

He is still a happy swimming little guy alone in my 55g.

Hey everyone new to the forums and new to GSP's. I started a new tank and after lots of research decided I wanted to go with GSPs. I picked up two both about 1"-1 1/4 in size (tail not included w/ tail roughly 1.5"). They were purchased FW and I know most are considered FW/BW but they do better in BW and apparently according to everyone in this topic full marine as well. I want to get them out of FW and started on BW and then eventually over time to full marine. My question is whens a good time to start? Is it okay to begin the acclimation process now? I want to do it slowly obviously so they don't go into shock. Whens a good time to start and how should I go about it. If you can either post a link to another topic (couldn't find one specific) or have me repost it as a new topic let me know. Want these little buggers to grow up big and happy! Thanks everyone.

Well it is not a GSP but I've had my Ceylon puffer in full marine since it was under an inch long (or barely and inch). It is doing well and is currently over 4 inches long.

I posted a thread a while back detailing my 55 gallon build. It has some pics of the very small ceylon in full marine water.

as you can see, it is very, very tiny

What size was it when you moved it into full marine? (since we're mainly looking for how this affects little guys put into full marine, instead of moving them only when they are larger)

He grew half inch and I didn't really notice because I see him everyday.

No to all, He was less stressed when I got him in full marine. His appetite picked up. His colors are way brighter. He gained a lot of weight.

No and I don't plan on it.

6 months or so until I sold him.

I don't remember. I don't think GSP's grow as quickly as other puffers but he seemed very healthy and happy.

No.... but I will add that my other, 3-4" gsp didn't start eating well until I acclimated him to very high brackish. So.

He was acclimated in the course of about a day to share a 65 gallon saltwater tank with a larger GSP, Mr. Lumps.

I thought I would add to this discussion and state that I converted my GSP tank to full marine 1.5 years ago and my GSP's went from 1-1.5 inches to a whopping 3.5 to even 4 inches! The growth spurt mostly happened within the first 6 months after the conversion. They are brightly colored and very active to this day. I had to place them on a diet now though because they started to get fat instead of growing.
