I was wondering if those of you who have Green Spotted Puffers (T. Nigroviridis) could take a close look at all their tails. Then post back here if :
-the tail is clear with no spots / dark areas
OR
-the tail has spots / dark areas
If you could also post that specific puffers size as well, that would be awesome.
Thanks

Actually, on the top it looks like there could be a couple very faint spots, I will have to take a closer look at him when I get home today

Spots on the tail might be something that changes with the mood too.

You should read the paper by Dekkers from 1975. Statistics on bars and spots can be found there.
As a side note: Mine had no spots when young, but 1 got bars when gowing up.

as far as I can tell there are no markings on the tails of mine, just searching through some pics though, will let you know if I find anything, both are between 1 and 1.5 inches

on closer inspection, the smaller one seems to have vertical stripes whereas the larger of the two has an almost clear tail

Re: If you own a GSP please read :)
Mine had a few spots that were barely visible, it had also had tail rot or maybe had it's tail nipped at by the other puffers from the place i got it. It has since recovered and has no visible spots and it's tail is perfectly fine.
