Where does your puffer sleep?

Post by sparks42 »

Does it sleep in a corner?....on a flat surface?....in a plant?....does it cozy up where its protected, or does it sleep in the open?
Does it sleep in the same spot or different spots? Does it have a "bed" ?
Does it sit on the bottom, or float around?
And does it instantly wake up, or does it kinda "sleep walk/sleep swim" for a while first?

Any stories about puffers sleeping?

And what kind of puff?

My Figure 8's live right next to my bed, so I have the opportunity to watch them as they settle in for the night (they have a moonlight).
Mine will swim slowly around the tank once it's dark, investigating for a while, then pick a spot and hover just over the substrate, usually under a leaf or something, and pretty much not move as I fall asleep.
When I wake up in the middle of the night, more often than not they will be actually sitting on the substrate, again usually under something.

IME they are not very deep sleepers though, they can be easily startled by me moving around in my bed. They seem to have excellent night vision.

My gsp's are new thier tank. Right now they both sleep on the bottom. One sleeps near the left back corner in the plants. The other one sleeps in the right front corner between a large bridge and the tank wall. Both of them on the gravel. Sounds a bit uncomfortable. They appear to wake up instantly.

Both my sharp-nosed tobies sleep in the corners of the glass, 1/2 way up the tank. I have no idea how they stick there!

My largest GSP sleeps under a stone buried in the substrate. He has actually dug a little trench for himself.
My other 2 sleep in the plants or floating (weird).

Milton (GSP) Sleeps under a cave. He is in my bedroom and I have to make it a point to run to his tank in the morning when I first wake up to catch him sleeping. He is always swimming around after I fall asleep, I can see him moving around when the light from the heater is on. And as soon as the light in my room is on he is up and swimming around, I don't think he likes it when I see him sleeping!

The new dwarf we picked up sleeps almost vertically tucked into the leaves of one of his plants. It almost looks like he's a flower bud or something. Really cute, but scared me half to death first time I saw it.

Our Ceylons each have half a tank to themselves, but sometimes they'll cross the border and sleep on the other side. I've caught them sleeping on the sand or floating around in the morning. I've even seen one of them curled right above the heater (one of them site vertically in the tank) in the morning.

Pufferpunk, where does the burrfish sleep?

He seems to hide in the cave at night but sleeps on a leather during the day.

He had a run in with the tube anemone. One of his eyes is pretty cloudy.

Aaw, how long ago was this?

Spoot's been working on the plumbing, but he's run into a snag with one of the pumps and one of the parts not fitting correctly. We both have finals right now, but hopefully we'll have it up and running by the end of the year.

That happened about a week ago. I'm still waiting for his eye to clear up. Never stopped eating but wasn't greeting me at the front of the tank for a few days & that really worried me.

I'm not sure about shipping him now, until it gets warmer. I'm getting rid of the Snowflake eel in a couple of days to reduce the bioload.

my gsps like to sleep under a side ways cup in the tank or in pvc tubing (with a little sand under them) , my figure 8's like to sleep near a castle decor or under plants in the tankI. My fahaka puffer likes to sleep in the left back corner in his own tank.

Our three gsp's sleep under a root. All three of them together. They dont seem to hostile towards each other. Unless its feeding time. So they all cuddle up under there.

I do now I will have to change the root to a fake on, but I want one that looks a lot like it. So they wont lose their hiding place.

My DP's take turns every few nights sleeping on my Lilly plant leaves. =] it's adorable to turn on the light and see them just laying on it, and watching them spend the next 10 minutes waking up.

My MBU sleeps under part of one of the bits of planted bogwood in his tank right by my bed so we can see each other (?!?!) he used to sleep in amongst some precious stones and actually used one of them as a pillow.... cutest thing ever!! If only I could have made him a little duvet!! Blinky definitely takes his time waking up and sleep swims to begin with... often bumping into things as he goes!!
1 of my Fig8s sleeps on an anubias leaf and the other under the internal filter that is running on the tank.
My dwarfs sleep wherever they feel like to be honest.
Ummm... could keep going but they're the main ones.
I love my Blinky Bu!!!!
