puffer breeding

Post by Lua_ »

Hi!

I have one male and two female carinotetraodon (lorteti or irrubesco, I don´t know) for two months and yesterday I noticed that the male attacked a female, and danced with another. I took a female to another tank and left the couple alone. The male was dark red and he danced a lot to the female, and chasing but not hurt.
Two hours after the fish are placed between the plants and left hundreds of eggs around the aquarium.
The male started to eat eggs, so I put the fishes in another aquarium.
How long it takes to be born?

Not long... Start raising insuforia with Liquifry for egglayers. The fry are gonna be tiny!

Wow! You must have some happy fish, if they spawned that quickly! Congratulations.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Please see viewtopic.php?f=40&t=17712 and viewtopic.php?f=40&t=5089&start=0 as well as library/puffers-in-focus/suvattibreeding/ for puffer breeding.

For closely related Carinotetraodon species it takes 60 to 72 for the fry to hatch, which are about 2 mm long. They can eat freshly hatched Cyclops (and infusoria of similar size) after their yolk is used up (about day 2 or 3). freshly hatched Artemia are too large in the beginning.

Take care so they are not filtered out, but still have enough oxygen to avoid fungus.
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

Of course!
water parameters: Tª:26º; PH:7.2; NO3:0; KH:1; GH:1
tanksize: 118 l
food: frozen artemia and mysis
any changes in the last days before that? yes, a change of 30 liters 3 days before. 30 liters will generally change every week

Wow Lua_

Your Puffers look great, especially the male with that red stripe down his belly

Do the males only get the stripe when they're breeding as I've never seen it before?

Those foods will not be small enough for the fry, which will look like specks of dust. Have you started adding the Liquifry to the tank? I'm afraid it may be too late to find food small enough for the new hatchlings. Maybe the next spawning.

My female lorteti spawned & layed hundreds of eggs. After 3 times, she killed her mate. Never had a single fry survive.
