Jumping back into pea puffers, question about initial shoaling stock

Post by andsoitgoes »

Hi all,

So I had a small pea puffer tank many years ago and they were my favorite fish. Don’t know why I got out of it other than having young kids.

Either way I want to jump back in with a shoaling group of 6, but my LFS only has 4 in stock while another has the remainder.

Does it matter much mixing and matching? I’d it vital to get all 6 at once or if I get 4 this week and another 2 next week, is that okay?

Thanks in advance!

I have 3 adults & will be getting more juvies this week. I have a heavily planted tank.

Thanks, that’s good to know! I ended up taking your suggestion and got a few more. I now have 5 (1 didn’t make it but the rest are doing exceptionally well!) and I’m debating on 1-2 more max.

I’m testing the waters with an amano as I really am anxious about the concern with keeping things clean, and free from algae as I have clay substrate, and so far so good. Thankfully the Amanos are fast as lightning
