The last time I checked, it was the level before vulnerable. It depresses me that they’re so over collected in the wild and most of them end up dying anyway due to ignorance or carelessness.
I wish the US would put a ban on importing dps. They’re now under vulnerable...

Instead of a complete ban perhaps a limit on how many could be imported yearly? In doing so it would open a new market for dwarf puffers thus providing incentive to people to breed them on a larger scale for the hobby. Correct me if I'm wrong with my thinking process.

DPs are probably the most bred species of all puffers.

Captive bred where? I’d love to own some but have never heard of anyone being able to keep babies

They are really easy to breed. I did it a few years ago and I'm not good with breeding anything other than snails. I would bet money some of the ones up for sale on eBay are tank raised.

Actually, Petsmart had a breeding program for many years.

Just did an eBay search, no current or completed listings say anything about being bred... and do you know for sure about petsmart? I had a manager try to tell me once that their land hermits are captive bred

This claim of petsmart having done a breeding program for dwarf puffers interested me so I did some light research and I was able to turn up two results.

The last post on the page above and the next post on the next page briefly mentions Petsmart breeding dwarf puffers but besides this I could not find any more information regarding Petsmart having had a captive breeding program for dwarf puffers.
Pufferpnk, could you cite where you found your information if possible? I'd like to do a bit of reading into it.

This was at least 15 years ago or longer. I remember PetSmart telling me so.

Ahh, I was under the impression that Petsmart had wrote an article about their breeding program when they were doing it (as I assume it is no longer) and that is where you got your information from. It's a shame that it is not the case as that article could have provided valuable information and leads to other information.
