palustris and cutcutia puffers in route

I had a chance to order the palustris and cutcutia a few weeks ago when they were posted, but the weather out here on the Northern states is good and then bad.
After thinking it over, I planned out an order for a few of them to arrive on the 7th.
I should have grabbed more palustris having a feeling there are some nice colors in that group.
Once they get settled in, and the current is the way they like, each little personality comes out.

3 pics of the palustris last month.
They obviously change color.

Wow!
On time and healthy looking. Thanks Wetspot.
Some were timid the first day.

Today, day #2 (arrived on the 7th) I bought them all giant bunches of Anubias plants for coverage.
They are quite active and hungry enough to corner and chase ghost shrimp.

I can have pics sometime this weekend, but I did find a
video (not mine) of two cutcutia that is absolutely adorable though.
-just turn the volume down. The background is distracting.

Curious what you paid for the anubias? I sell mine & never know what to charge for them.

Short story:
There are so many types of Anubias!
We love em.
Advertised at 14.99 (large Anubias barteri var. coffeefolia), but the store was not doing the same $14.99 that day and I got lucky.
$7.99 each., and walked out with bags upon bags of plants like at the grocery store.
I'd sell them by the leaf or the sheer mass (mass-fills-a-12-inch-cube or something quantitative not to sound too nerdy) to keep an accurate gauge on the economics. Some people have somewhat free natural outdoor lighting and water involved into their growing aquatic gardens.

Long version:
Online, it's iffy what comes in the mail.
Forums usually have pics of the actual plants out on the table or in the tank for sale.
Stores usually have higher prices, but some have sales or good seasonal stock and it's right there in the store.
Small, medium and large Leaves. Pointy-long or broad shaped.
Anubias come in so many forms and shapes. I believe they resist getting knocked over in the proper current. I like that.

Time...
I'd rather take care of the fish, and not have to "cut-the grass" all the time with planted tanks.
So far, I have acquired a passion for simple planted tank layouts that get "scaped" and don't move or grow too fast.

I am red green color deficient, so I screw up the green plant shades quite easily, but actually have a 2018 xmas holiday gift, a popular manufacturer's corrective sunglasses, but that is a different rabbit hole of topics.
I laughed out loud when Pufferpunk stated she liked the red tail on the cutcutia.
"What red tail"? lol. I think I see it now though.
The red is not the same "pop" as normal eyes. Only in the right light.

Cutcutia. Awesome fish though.
I think I scored on some little puffer personalities though. These new ones like people ...yay.
We puffer lovers are getting to all know "how it goes".
Most of us have that one little fat puffer that so nice looking, but is shy as can be, and likes to eat when the lights are low and we step a few steps back from the tank.

I somewhat believe what is out there as for size info, but I'm trying to make sure I even have the species I think I do!

2 Palustris and 2 Cutcutia came from the Wetspot.
The employee said the cutcutia went ape-nuts over a green algae magnet at the store.
I believe it.
Both are awesome cutcutia puffers. Very happy. They Love to chase ghost shrimp and live creepy little brine. The first 2 hours they were eating, but so were the palustris.

The one cutcutia went upside down like a robot and tucked itself around the bottom of an object and caught something, then went backwards and rotated to normal like Drone/multirotor or machinery.
I must say "that was cool".

The palustris are nice, they need more plants and stuff in the tank and time.
They do their thing, but really zoom out to me when I approach the tank.

The cutcutia are little fun things.
Don't count out the palustris though. I need more time with them.

The last shipment of 2 turgidis were a little shy, but came around a lot.

The target puffer I have that has a long snout is awesome.
Puffer punk stated leiurus....It has a long snout though. I thought the leiurus has a round space-helmet face. (?)
Unhappy little puffer at the store...
'Comes home and a day later is one of my best as for interaction.
I did have to pay store price asking $59.
Cool enough of a fish that it does not matter anymore.
Some people frown on paying for fish stating, "it's a fish".

Water potatoes, water po-tot-ohs. Whatever right!

I wish I had a few more weeks to observe for you on the palusris.

I actually messaged wetspot and asked them that question and they replied with.

Good question! We don’t know much about them either, but I wouldn’t expect them to get much bigger than 5-6” max. This is based solely on observations of ones we have had come through and similar species. They sure seem mean to one another, but I believe some people keep them together.

Wetspot is awesome.
I promised I'd have pics by now, but I do have time this week.
There were so many tanks to move, fill, clean, and care for and I loved doing it.
I'm running planted bare bottom tanks with boulder, pebble , and other things on the bottom.
Yes, a lot of plants don't need substrate, but they will stick a taproot into a nook for some extra goodies in all those little spaces.

Analogy:
Do we like to clean carpets or hardwood floor?

As long as the fish seems very happy, I'm ok with spots of glass showing and a scattered rocks etc.

Edit:
Oh, you had asked -How big do the Palustris Puffers get?

I have not seen the date out there show anything longer than 78-79mm.
My source was -Thailand info from search engine results.

How do you like the Cutcutia puffers? If wetspot still has them listed when the put up the new list today I think I'm gonna grab me one. They seem pretty aggressive?

Hi,

The Cutcutia twins and Palustris twins are both doing fine.

The cutcutia have:
- wide heads.
- great personality.
- Both are ok with overhead lighting (some puffers really are not used to bright LEDS).
- a nice deep color on the tail, supposedly red tones.
- I use dark colors and driftwood near the bottom to bring out those colors. They lighten up with bright substrates IMO.

They love to chase live brine as well as like live black worms from local stores.
I have a red cherry shrimp project coming to support some clean home raised feeders.
Walmart was the only place that had small red worms during the winter.
They are a great size for puffers being large or small.
Wax worms, snails, and thawed shrimp are a go to item in the rotation.

The males may have a different design.
I'm not sure yet.

Tell me what you think (video below).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dn0ASmfngY

palustis:
The palustis are quite pretty with designs like the Turgidus species, but with different colors and a yellowish or green belly.
I'm slightly color deficient in red/greens, so my take on color is a joke.

Both the palustris and cutcutia are awesome.
I wouldn't pass up either if I could hand pick them in a store.

They have designs differences of snakes or kittens in a litter. Two right next to each other can be noticeably different.
Some look like display quality fish with how perfect the design came out.

Some patterns look like they were made (painted) on Monday or Friday.
The personality is surely there for both the cutcutia and palustris.
I do keep them separated in the same tank divided, but as they tanks are being set-up they each get their own soon.

Aggressive? Likely yes.
I would only put a male and female temporarily together if I could figure the sexing out.

I almost cleaned out my local store of their 48x12x12 (33 gal. long) from Seapora/DeepBlue (Aquarium Masters).
They are $75 per tank and $17 per lid. Center brace, no flexing, great room to plant small plants.

The 40 gallon 48x12x16 is a nice one too ($115 area).
A 40 breeder full of plants is a good choice as well.
I stay far away from ($1 a gallon) 40 breeders with no center brace. Noooo likey.

20 longs and 20 gal. highs were getting crowded with plants and equipment and they slightly flex when full of water.
I don't like a tank that shows the flexing I see in my 20H or 20 long.
33 longs are a blessing for me to acquire.

I really like to run the 33 longs (48x12x12) with one side planted and the other transitions into a dark creepy wasteland of driftwood and traces of equipment to get at easily.

Peninsula style is my thing.
I like them to be able to go to the far or rear area or come way out toward the center of the room and see me in these small peninsula builds.

So far some are still on the floor peninsula style waiting for their stands and configuration!

Lastly, I ran trough some videos of popular youtube channels for guru insight on internal and external meds.
- I lost one wild caught puffer this month due to a cloud patch that came on quick and ko'd the puffer in days.

My Kanaplex (Kanamycin A?) was not in time and the first dose was too late.
I was very upset.
That was my fastest puffer. I have over a dozen and none move like this at this size.
It would nail multiple items while they fell on different sides of the tank as fast a trained boxers combination punch/

Good luck and great price!
$20-30 for a great little friend.
