I have been try to do some research into Tetraodon Schoutedeni puffers and have noticed that they are often called Spotted Congo puffers or Leopard puffers. I have also noticed that Tetraodon nigroviridis puffers are to as not only Green spotted puffers but also as Leopard puffers. Why is the same common name used for 2 different fish? The fact that they look very similar makes it all the more frustrating.
For instance what if someone who is less knowledgeable buys a GSP from their LFS and there they are calling them Leopard puffers. So when they take it home and google care requirements they come across a page about Spotted Congo puffers that referees to them as leopard puffers. The picture look like their fish but it's not so they end up thinking that what they have and keep it in fresh water it's whole life even though it needs brackish water. Or the opposite happens they buy a Spotted Congo and think its a GSP so they keep it in brackish water.
Why is the same name sometimes used for both?
Also am looking to pick a couple of Schoutedeni puffers, anyone have a good source? Or if anyone here is breeding them and willing to sell and ship them I would prefer the benefits of captive breed over wild caught.

I guarantee you--you will never find a Spotted Congo sold as a GSP, they cost 30x the price!

This is the problem with ‘common names’ for identifying fish. Too much confusion due to many fish sharing a common descriptive name. Much better to use the scientific name. Who knew getting into fish keeping involved learning Latin? Lol

I have a few hundred Tetraodon schoutedeni puffer juveniles in Phoenix/Mesa, Arizona that are almost large enough to ship. I’ve been posting information on Instagram @prestonjohn but you can also search #tetraodonschoutedeni to find.
