You know 6 months can be a long time.... lol

Good to hear they are doing well. My Suvattii is eating daily but Im not giving too much. The first week I let it pretty much eat as much as it wanted but now I’m just trying to make sure it trys a variety of different things. Been feeding half a large night crawler a day. Tried some krill on it and it ate it but didn’t seem to like it. But overall it is doing very well and does not bury itself too much now.

Hubby has been saying, "No more tanks" for a while now. Just showed up with a 10g from the Petco sale. He repeated it. I then asked him if the bottom of the stand would be able to support the tank, He stated it would need blocks of wood under it. He's cutting them today.

bad news guys.... my large hairy arrived but it doesn't look as though he has travelled well :-(!!

I floated him and released after 10 mins. he went straight to the bottom lying on his side, not moving any fins. I can't see any obvious sign of physical damage other than it looks as though he eyes have a film over them or a bit cloudy - possible ammonia burns? There wasn't really any poo in the bag though. It was also only collected at 6pm last night and with me for 8am.

I don't think it was particularly well packaged and the water was cold.

Any suggestions? For now I've left him with the light off and I'll check back tonight after work..

Sorry to hear that. Hope all is well. Keep us updated on it.

At this point it will need a little time and clean water.

You're treating him right. Be sure & contact the supplier ASAP, as to his arrival condition.

so i got home tonight...he's moved to the otherside of the tank and at the back. he's not moving and is on the bottom. but he's not on his side anymore, he's now looking what i'd think is more normal for a 'lurker' puffer, i.e. sat on the bottom and not moving.

I can't see what his eyes are like as he's right at the back behind some plants.

I don't normally do this but i put in a feeder fish (from captive bred stock so no worries about disease) and it swam right past his face a couple of times and he didn't go for it.

Not sure what to think.... any suggestions?

the shop have a 24 hr DOA guarantee...but i can't work out if he's sick/stressed/or just normal behavious..

What was the packaging like? It shouldn't be in that bad of shape.

I’ve had bad shipments of my bichirs. One time the fish were not purged first and the shipping bag was full of vomited out shrimp parts. The eyes on the fish were white and cloudy. Just did lots of clean water and it turned out great. Im thinking the puffer may have just had a little ammonia poison and lack of heat. Probably stressed at this point.

Have you informed the shipper of the fish's condition?

Good news!!

I came home today and he was still in the same spot, he hadn't eaten the feeder fish.

I dropped a frozen (and defrosted) shrimp in front of him and he ate it. He then came looking for more! I managed to get him to eat 4 in the end and he even had a bit of a swim around. I was very relieved!

no photos yet as I'm only just gaining his trust, didn't want to stress him out with the flash of a phone camera (I am still keeping the lights dimmed for now!).

I forgot to mention, per my previous post I've also got another small baileyi (from a different supplier shipment) who's also doing fine :-)

Thanks for your support all

4 shrimp?? Yeah I'd say it's improved. That's got to be a relief.

How's the suvatti doing?

As an update - he ate well again this morning and was moving around :-)

I'm now away for a few days (don't worry there is someone at home to feed my puffers!!) - hopefully pics will follow on my return.
