Hi everyone,
I have a question about dwarf puffers/pea puffers and potential shrimp tank-mates. I see posts online that mention Amano/ghost shrimp as being compatible with puffers.
ARE shrimp compatible with puffers? We have some big bamboo shrimp in our community tank (big is a relative term, they are about 1.5-2 inches long) and I was wondering if they would do ok with our pea puffers.
Our 3 puffers live in a 20 G tank with 4 oto cats and a bunch of pond snails. The tank is planted with live plants and lots of places to hide.
We were debating getting ghost shrimp but are now thinking of letting one or two of our bamboo shrimp 'visit' the puffer tank.
Can anyone share experiences of puffers and shrimp, and how they turned out?
Thank you all ^_^

I have amanos with mine and they have been fine. Fine meaning, the puffers still try to nip at them but the amanos are good at sticking up for themselves. I'm not familiar with ghost shrimp, the size sounds about right but if they are timid shrimp then I wouldn't risk it.

The ghost Shrimps will be competing will your dp for snails and they are much better hunters than dp. They are also aggressive and will snatch food. Bamboo are too timid and slow. Dps will probably nip at them constantly.

Yeah I'd think the dps would peck at the bamboo shrimps feeding fans
I've always had Amanos with mine and have not had any problems

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your DP and shrimp stories! We will get a couple of Amano shrimp for our puffer tank.
Our bamboo shrimp are lovers, not fighters - they are not likely to do more than run and hide rather than defend themselves

I'd keep an eye on the shrimp, my dwarf puffers successfully rip the legs and claws off of shrimp a lot bigger than them.

Shrimp update - we added 3 Amano shrimp to our pea puffer tank 3 days ago and so far, everyone is getting along. No nipping, and the shrimp seem to be comfy roaming around and filtering on plants, drift wood, and rocks
