Okay so the dp won't be able to go straight into the 10 gallon like originally planned because the betta in there has some sort of fungus so I'm going to wait until I'm 100% sure the tank is healthy before playing musical tanks. I decorated a spare 5.5 gallon though that was previously coated in slime algae, so please excuse the rest of it that is still on the bottom of the tank. Because it's a temporary tank I'm not concerned about the aesthetics of it, I just want to make sure the puffer will be comfortable in there.

This is what it looks like right now, do you think a dp would like like it in here? I just kind of threw a bunch of stuff in there to make it more dynamic. I also already added some snails for the little one to hunt down!

(again, please excuse the algae on the bottom and on the plants, will continue to work on it)

Yes a dp would be happy in there. Possibly put up a background?

So I got the little one today! I can't believe how tiny he is! I only got a few pictures of when he was in the bag, because he's pretty scared at the moment and I don't want to stress him further. From what I could see at the lfs, he's pretty inquisitive/trusting once he settles down. I watched as the lfs owner put a cup into the tank to get him out and he voluntarily swam right into it for her!

How does he look health-wise to you all? Also, is it normal for them to breathe heavily when first introduced to their tank? I did acclimate him and I've left him alone and the lights off ever since, but even a few hours later he's still breathing kind of heavily. Is he just stressed?

(on a side note, I was really surprised that the puff is old enough to be sexed correctly! from what I've read on here a lot of the puffs are sold as juveniles)

Looks in good health to me. Yes it's normally for heavy breath with stress. Pretty much any changes I make to my tank all the puffs will go into stressed mode.

Thank you, I'm relieved to know that it's normal. He seems to be doing OK right now, I watched him eat three snails already! Tomorrow I'll offer some IP-medicated bloodworms just in case.

I'm no DP expert, but he looks alert and healthy to me.

Glad to hear that he's eating right after the transfer.

He'll be living the high life for sure in your carefully detailed tank.

Please let us know if you name him, and thanks for the updates.
