Anyone with more than one Colomesus asellus in their tank?

Post by Alleycat »

I bought a solo little guy that was screaming to get out of the LFS he/she was in. The owner of the store said he was the last one of several he had for sale, and the smallest and gave me a deal ... However after he said he kept several together I would like to add a couple more to his tank. It's a 40L with two sponge and a fluval 205 keeping everything clean and moving. I'd like to add at least 2 more. Any negative thoughts on this? Anyone have success keeping multiple asellus in one tank? Should they be in a larger tank like a 75?

These are actually one of the "social" puffers, who prefer to be kept in groups. 15g for the 1st & 10g for every extra. 3 would do nicely in a 40g. Keep in mind, they have serious dentistry issues.

I've read a lot about their dentistry issues, and so far my solo is a snail hound! He crushes every rams horn I throw at him....but not too keen about the MTS I have an abundance of. Now to find 2 more ...

Careful there, Pufferpunk is speaking about a 40g tank, which would be in non-crazy units (I am from EU ;) ) about 160L.
If your tank is really 40L and not 40g, it is too small for more than one colomesus. In fact, most of the people here will tell you its too small for even a single colomesus...
and I agree (even if I tend to overstock), it seems too small, especially if it is a squarish tank: those puffer are good swimmers, so they would need a bit of length even if your current should help....40L (nominal or real?) is really small...

Hum, I have doubts too now, seing that Alleycat is from the US too. Maybe it's a 40 gallon long, or 40 inch long??? Then it can be big enough, probably in both cases...

OK, re-read the OP: she's from the US, so I think she means a 40 Long.

Wow ... sorry for the confusion, yes I meant a 40g long, not a common 40g breeder tank. :) ( I say common as they're on sale for $40 here and everyone's buying them up)

And umm, she's a he

Oops, I guess the name threw me off. You can include your sex in your profile & it will appear on the left, under your name.
