Puffer Entertainment? :-)

Post by rubymist »

Ok, so definitely not a life-threatening post here :)

I have a new dwarf puffer (female, I believe) in a 5gal tank. I named it Hermes, before I knew the gender! Haha. Currently, she is the only living thing in that tank, aside from some snails for snacking. She is extremely active, and I know she is still new and checking out the tank, but are there things I can do to help entertain her? Or things to put in the tank that would keep her entertained?

My LFS recommended a ghost shrimp, and I am fully aware he may become a midnight snack! I currently have a piece of wood that she thoroughly examines. Some java fern, fake grass, fake bamboo plant, and a half-buried pot. Is there anything else anyone can recommend? I know this is an unusual topic :-), I just want my puffer to be the happiest she possibly can!

If the tank is densely planted/decorated then she will be entertained, visual complexity is key
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Moss balls are nice deco-plants that are usually flourishing with infursoria, maybe get one or two of those an shrimp? My pea puffer never directly attacked a shrimp, but they often had missing antennae XD.

As far as enternainment goes, the more room to explore and the more structures/plants/deco to examine, the better.

I have a handful of moss balls in my DP tank- they seem to enjoy them, and they're hardy plants. Anything with little caves is a definite plus as well :D

Fantastic! I have one Marino ball in here, and want to get some Java moss to cover my log. Got a shrimp today, more for cleanup duty! Haha.

Thanks for all the helpful tips!
